![]() Users can toggle the interval by using the GoPro app. By default, the camera captures photos once every 0.5 secs until you either turn it off, the battery drains or the card fills up. To shoot a time-lapse with the HERO4 Session, hold the video record button on the top of the unit for several seconds, this will automatically turn the camera on and start capture. The small LCD screen on top is helpful in indicating what mode you are currently in, and what options you are adjusting, but ultimately, it is much easier to change settings by pairing the Session with a phone running the GoPro app, than it is trying to nail the perfect combination of buttons presses. Changing settings using only the two buttons can be quite confusing. ![]() As we mentioned, aside from the record button, the unit has only a Info/Wi-Fi button. This can be the difference between getting a sweet clip, and missing it entirely.Īnd while the one-touch operation is intuitive for starting and stopping capture, the simplicity of the HERO4's design has its downsides. However, it is worth pointing out that the delay between pressing the button, and the start of capture is lengthy, about 5 seconds. Hold the button for a few seconds and it start time-lapse capture. The one-touch recording operation is simple and intuitive enough, just press the record button on top, and the camera turns on and starts video capture. You can download the original video file here (277 MB). You can read more about using GoPro Studios on the last page. It was entirely edited using GoPro Studio, a free piece of editing software. The above super-cut video was shot using a several different GoPro video resolutions, frame rates and modes, including 1440/30p and 1080/60p, as well as various time-lapse settings. Furthermore, the bevy of recording options available in the GoPro app, coupled with editing options in GoPro Studio, makes it easy to get some really excellent results from this little unit, without too much fuss. And, all things considered, the video quality still looks very good by action camera standards. While it does not offer the highest quality video in the GoPro line (see the comparison chart on the first page), it is easily the most versatile and easy-to-use GoPro to date. "Hands down, the best feature of the Session is its tiny size and ability to weather just about anything thrown at it." ![]() Hands down, the best feature of the Session is its tiny size, and ability to weather just about anything thrown at it, whether it be sleet and snow, beer, or a flying skateboard. We also tossed it in a water cup, sprayed it with Sriracha, and even placed it in a pint glass and poured beer over it. In our testing, we mounted the GoPro to a wide variety of vehicles and persons, including a motorcycle, car, skateboard, snowboard and bicycle. But don't take that to mean the Session can't be used as a serious video-making tool, because it certainly can. For the non-technologically minded, the HERO4 Session is literally foolproof to use for basic capture. Even if you do dig into the camera's settings, via the app, the real determining factor in how good your footage looks is what you choose to point it at. Literally hit one button and the unit turns on and starts capture, hit that same button and it stops capture and powers down. Using the GoPro HERO4 Session in the field is incredibly simple and straightforward (assuming you do not plan on fussing with settings at all).
